What I’ve Been Up to Lately | August – September 2014

Good evening, world!

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks, so posts have been slowly sadly. I decided as a way to keep in touch with y’all, I wanted to share some snapshots of my life including my first day of class selfie (top, middle) with my roommate (as you can tell, I am waaaaay excited for organic chemistry II) and even my birthday, which was this past week. I’m not huge into celebrating my birthday, but I am so grateful for all the love (and food, especially donuts haha) I received from family, old, and new friends.

Thanks so much for reading and being so patient with me! Have a lovely weekend! c:

Keepin’ Up with the Austinites

Hey, y’all!

It’s been a long time since I’ve actually sat down and written a blog post, and sadly, I don’t think I’ll be having this luxury until after finals. My last week of classes are quickly approaching (next week) and then finals. I know a couple of my friends are already starting finals, so good luck to everyone!

I do seem to visit Austin quite a bit since my closest friends go to UT and all the fun things to do there. This time I visited Austin with my closest friend in college, Rachel (she’s probably going to read this post, so hey gurl), and it was one of the best weekends ever! We went to Mount Bonnell and Graffiti Park, and of course had to take some tourist-y pictures (Sadly, I forgot to charge my camera, so I had to make do with the camera on my iPhone). We talked, we laughed, we ate lots and lots of yummy food (really craving some Halal Bros right now)… Thanks again for hanging out with me, guys! I had such a great weekend! ^____^

Adventures in Austin

Good morning, lovelies!

This past weekend I was in Austin to visit some of my best friends from high school at University of Texas, and they basically made an awesome weekend even more awesome. I had the opportunity to explore downtown Austin, meet some new friends, and spend a wonderful time with my lovely friends. It’s so funny how despite not seeing each other for awhile, we still fall back into our friendship as if we had never separated. If y’all are reading this blogpost (HI!), thank you so much for showing me around Austin and being the best friends I could ask for. I will be visiting again soon (and we shall take allllll the pictures because I am incompetent and forgot my camera)! I miss y’all. #thesoftestofgrunges

Before I left Austin, I made sure to schedule some time to take some pictures around the beautiful campus. My dad actually went to UT, so he was showing me around nostalgically. Maybe it’s the architect’s daughter in me that really appreciates beautiful buildings and design, but I really love UT’s campus (especially the turtle pond which is where these pictures are taken). I believe that turtles are my spirit animals.

August Favorites

Hello, everyone! August has been a crazy month for me with my moving away from home and into college, but nonetheless, I have a few honorable favorites that I have been loving throughout this month.

{ 1 } Being away from home is so hard, and one of the worst parts about it is that I do not get my Vietnamese food fix. I have been spoiled all my life with my mom’s cooking, and college cafeteria food just can’t compare (especially the asian food… yuck). It’s so funny because I actually wasn’t a big Vietnamese food lover growing up, but ever since being at college, it’s all I crave. Pictured above is one of my favorites, pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup. Just thinking about it is making me salivate.

{ 2 } It’s been in two outfit posts so far, but I’ve been actually wearing this pleated skirt really often. It’s kind of terrible actually, but I just love how effortless it looks with t-shirts and how expensive it feels when it’s only from Forever 21. Outfits featuring this skirt are here and here.

{ 3 } Last, but certainly not least, I must boast about my dorm room. I’m kind of a hermit crab because I love just staying in and watching movies all day, and my dorm is seriously perfect. It’s so spacious and so comfy that it almost feels like home. Almost. My dad likes to joke that my room is “palace-like” compared to other college campus’ dorm rooms. Almost.

What are your monthly favorites for August?

Thanks for reading this post! Have a wonderful day!

Ladies Afternoon

Shopping with Grace and Spoorthi consists of a whole lot of browsing and breaks for eating. After nearly getting lost, we ventured into Anthropologie, acting like little kids in a candy shop as we touched everything and anything. Leaving empty-handed, we decided to spend our money on macarons and drinks. We had too much fun roaming around Urban Outfitters, reading all the raunchy gag gifts (we’re immature, and we giggled at everything) and rummaging through the sale section. About an hour or so later, we found ourselves back at another sweet coffee shop to enjoy more macarons (they are so addicting, I swear!) before Spoorthi became the photographer for my blog. I am an awkward model, and I am not ashamed. Haha. There are some really silly shots (including one of Grace and I mimicking an advertisement for the shopping center), but they turned out really well. Thanks, Spoorthi! c: Awkward modeling aside, we wound back at a sushi place for a late lunch and then caught the afternoon showing of The Internship. If you haven’t seen it already, you should definitely watch the Internship! It’s such a cute and hilarious movie! I had a great day with these girls. c:

I decided to dress more comfortably today, showing off my fun Banana Republic plaid shorts with the “neutral” tie top from Loft. These two items were steals as I snagged them both in the sale section of their respected factory/outlet shops with extra markdowns. Sweeeeet. I am kind of obsessed with my nails, just an fyi. Grace gave the nail polish to me for a graduation gift (Thank you, Grace!), and I’m thinking about doing Nail of the Day posts in the future. My nails complement the shorts! I am obsessed.

“…and turn the page to begin a new chapter.” -Marissa Cummings

I didn’t expect that I would graduate high school so soon. I can still remember in first grade when I thought to myself, “Wow, you’re never getting out of elementary school” (I was a very optimistic child). I remember my first day of high school. The awkward introductions, the unfamiliar faces, the desire to fit in in this sea of unknown… High school was a great experience; a place where I met my best friends, strengthened friendships, and learned a whole lot more than what was presented in the classroom. I will never forget the memories I made in high school, and I thank everyone who I ever encountered in high school because each and every person, whether the encounter was positive or negative, shaped me, bettered me.

To all my dear friends, I will seriously miss you. No one from my high school will be going to my college in the fall, and part of me is really sad about the fact that I won’t be able to bother Leah in Economics, to see Grace fall asleep, to nag at Kevin about everything, to be disgusted at how cute Paul and Marissa are, or even to recite Spongebob with Abi and Ronald. However, I know that although all our paths are diverging, somehow, someday we will all meet again. It may not be next week. It may not be next year. It may not be the year after that. Somehow, someday, we will meet again.

Enough with my sappy feelings and on with the outfit! My mom and I are Ann Taylor addicts. We always browse that store and look at all their look book type advertisements, but we always wait until their sales. The Memorial Day sale was A+! I believe it was 60% off of their clearance section, and man, we took advantage. This dress I wore under my cap and gown was a steal, and I love all of the details. From the tweed texture to the eyelet trims, this shift dress was perfect. I paired everything with simple jewelry and my mini wedge ballet flats (did that phrase even make sense?). I didn’t want to trip on stage, and knowing me, I probably would have.

Graduation itself was pretty chill and a lot longer than I had expected, but I had fun sitting with all people in my row, clapping for my friends and laughing about how some names were butchered. After graduation, I didn’t spend too long taking pictures outside in the sweltering sun, and my family and I rushed to celebrate with my favorite food: Mexican food. Look at that salsa shot. So good.

This is Ronald Pabello. He wanted to be in my fashion blog. He’s a better model than me.
